Under the moonlit early morning sky, air so fresh and cool, at 4am , with our guide and led only by the moon and the brilliant millions stars and our headlamps we hiked uphill 400m (with no water breaks ) and finally in 2 hrs we reached the top of Poonhill to catch the magnificent glow of the sunrise over the peaks of Annapurna range. ... a beautiful sight.
A total silence fell upon us, like as if the moments are so precious, so peaceful and so calming...... a true scantuary.
The magnificence of the Himalayas command an unspoken respect that sweeps over us. ..either this or we were all too exhausted from the climb to even utter a word ! At 3210masl we had to catch our breath after such a steep ascend.
As this is the highlight of the 5 day Poonhill trek, it is not surprising that along the path we met up with many trekkers from all over the world.
This "breath-taking view" is worthy of all the aching moans and groans of our poor knees and hip joints. Its worth the endless trails of donkey dung along our pathways (guide told us we had done 20,000stone steps ) and of course by then we were practically experts in differentiating cow, horse, goat or even human wastes ..
However we could only stay at the top of Poonhill for little over an
hour - what a pity...after all that hiking ! Magnificent mountain range so close to us....it is such an unbelievable feeling that we actually made it to the top ! Even with no trekking or proper training at all, it is amazing that we did this ! We have conquered the mind and the will !!.. its true that the mind is so powerful.
Phular insists we had to descend soon towards Gorephani thru the
blooming Rhodorendron forests before sunsets in.
The rate we walk he estimated that we would probably reach Gorephani
just about dinner time.
